| > What is Ganzeer? |
Ganzeer: Experimental Arts Unit is a multi-disciplinary art studio working out of Cairo, Egypt across a multitude of creative mediums with focus on creating the most inventive concept-based work of art. Understanding the suggestive & communicative power of visual arts, Ganzeer uses the arts to supreme functionality, expressing specific messages and presenting strong in-depth commentary, while drawing inspiration from local and universal pop culture and subcultures, societies, human experiences, and economic, political, and global issues, all of which are in constant motion day after day, making the work of Ganzeer never short of ultimate freshness and awesome diversity.
Knowledge & understanding of the power of visual arts and the impact it has on the psychology of societies gives Ganzeer a certain responsibility as the scope of its work expands and is exposed to more and more people, making Ganzeer very conscience, aware, and in some cases even activism-focused with the type of work it is involved in. Ganzeer isn't just another design studio; it's more of a philosophy and approach.
Ganzeer also makes it a point in drawing from Egyptian and Arabian cultures, as it is who we are and where we are from, without letting that override the need to draw from other cultures as well, as Ganzeer firmly believes that no one culture is superior to any other culture; all cultures are wonderful manifestations within the boundaries of planet Earth, and we are all, as far as we know, Earthling. As such, Ganzeer takes every opportunity it can to blend different cultures and movements together through its work, eliminating the suggestion of the monoculture and passionately endorsing the multi-culture.
Our website, Ganzeer.com not only acts a portfolio for our work-for-hire and a catalogue for our products, but also serves as an off-the-wall art and design portal, feeding its visitors with gobs of art, culture, and design goodness.
“Ganzeer,” the Egyptian term for thick chains most commonly used on bicycle gears, the chain without which the gears would be rendered useless. These chains are also commonly used in street fights, which makes it a symbol of rebellion and opposition; the essence of what Ganzeer is all about; rebelling against the common and the mainstream. The chain as a symbol also acts as a metaphor for connection, communication, and continuous thinking, a “chain of thought” if you will, which all combine to create the driving force behind the concepts and ideas carried out by Ganzeer.
Ganzeer is anti-standard. Ganzeer is creative. Ganzeer is… your experimental arts unit.

Ganzeer occupies a small 80-meter square studio in the Ard El-Golf area of Cairo, Egypt. Starting out with basically no money at all (for real guys, zero was the number), we had no funding whatsoever to spazz up the studio from the get go, so we only got around to painting a wall here and installing an AC there when we were able to set aside some cash from the gigs we got. As Ganzeer evolves so does the studio. The following space is dedicated to photo-documenting the evolution of the Ganzeer studio as the days, months, and years go by, and hopefully acting as an inspiration to anyone who wants to set up a studio of their own. |
