8x8 is the average screen size stared at by humans worldwide every day. Or so we think. These screens, however, whether TV screens, mobile phone screens, PC screens, billboard/advertising screens, feed humanity with a whole load of crap. We here at Ganzeer propose a solution; [8x8], a bilingual (Arabic/English) contemporary socio-cultural magazine. It is small in size, but rich in content. The idea is to utilize the quickest, most effective on-the-go storytelling methods via the use of short telegram-style prose and the short comic book to deliver in depth social commentary. It also takes a look at underground music and un-established contemporary artists and photographers. Although only 16 pages short, and sporting a dimensional size of 8 inches by 8 inches, you come out of the short reading period it takes to read [8x8] with a horde of penetrating idea and thought, and a whole lotta funny. [8x8]'s issue #0 features the awesome works and superhot talents of Hatem Fatthy, Karim Hany, Mohammed A. Fahmy, Nancy Abdel Messeih, Mohammed Alaa El-Din, May El-Naggar, Amira Mehrez, and Sarah Khanna. Its16 pages are printed in black & white, wrapped in a two-color cover by Mohammed A. Fahmy. Due to unforeseen circumstances however, our main sponsor, Café’ Inch terminated its operations in Cairo, which also lead to the inevitable termination of our publishing arrangement. Hence, 8x8 never made it past its #0 issue. The bright side is that it gives us the right to offer the complete [8x8] #0 in downloadable PDF format totally free of charge. |
